St. Louis, MO The NB of Commerce in St. Louis. Ch. # (M)4178 Replacement PMG 64EPQ $10 1882 BB Fr. 484 Rosecrans | Huston SN 50953/A128228 pp R/2 dtd. Dec. 14, 1889.
The National Bank of Commerce in St. Louis was one of the most prolific note issuing banks of the National Currency era, issuing more than $112 million in currency from the time of its chartering in December of 1889 through 1935. The $10 Brown Back offered here is certainly not a statistical rarity though it is a wonderful representation of this visually striking design type. Broad margins and bold machine printed signatures are featured on this beautifully printed Ten from the Gateway City. Stacks didn't describe as a Replacement note, but it is in the census--it is from 4x$10 plates reintroduced as an option in 1906 by the BEP. From the Tarzan Collection.
