Date backs for the 1902 $5 blue seals seem to be far more rare than the Plain Backs. Independence, IA - $5 1902 Date Back Fr. 590 The First NB Ch. # (M)3263
A bright, well-margined Date Back from this Independence bank that issued large size only before exiting the banking scene in 1928. PMG Very Fine 30.

Another Flynn note. It is an honor to own notes from this collector that had one of the keenest currency collecting eye I have ever observed. He was brilliant at choosing notes that cost $100,000 or more now all the way to notes that only cost a few hundred. I look at every note for sale that has was owned by Thomas Flynn. It's bound to be special. Heritage comments...
Lewistown, PA - $5 1902 Plain Back Fr. 599 The Mifflin County NB Ch. # 1579
From our sale of the Tom Flynn collection in 2008 where we said: "A bright and attractive note with plenty of original embossing visible through the third party holder. This example is by far the finest large note known from here." It still is today. PMG Choice Uncirculated 63 EPQ.

Auburn, NY - $10 1882 Brown Back Fr. 482 The National Bank of Auburn Ch. # 1350 PMG Very Fine 25.
A scarcer type and denomination from this Cayuga County bank that is one of just two $10 Brown Backs reported and easily the finer of the pair. It was last on the market in our 2005 FUN auction where it was acquired by our consignor. Also, we mentioned then that the note traced its provenance to the 1957 FUN auction held by Federal Coin Exchange of Cleveland, Ohio. It's an attractive pen-signed example which is also notable for its lack of a tombstone, providing a most unusual title layout which is rarely found on $10 Brown Backs.

Nice red seal 1902. What a sweet addition to the 1902's. This note is one of those head scratchers. I am not a big fan of soiled notes like many folks, however all of us have to make exceptions every once in a while. This is a perfect example. The note is fairly graded at a VF 30. The soiling is not serious as the note is evenly worn and has a yellowish tint. A note I would usually pass. But look at the red seal and the red lettering. Even with the yellowing and appearance of soil the beauty of the red seal combined with the bold pen signatures. This note has a lot of character. I truly love this New York City red seal.

This note complements my $10 large from Paris, Illinois! With a fairly extensive French Bank Note Collection, I figure to have most Paris notes in the world covered! Not to mention the iconic film about this sleepy Texas town. A Date Back $50 on this bank that was managed by Cashier James A. Smith and R(ufus) F(inner) Scott. Mr. Scott's palatial residence is now the Garrett Funeral Home. Mr. Scott passed away in 1932.
