Owner's Description
Spencer, IN The Spencer NB Ch. # (M)9715 PMG 35 $10 1902 PB Fr. 627 SN 4056/T72288E pp C/688 dtd. Mar. 17, 1910. Spenser had two banks, but was the only Owen County town with NBs (FNB (2178) has none known). DBs are available in AU condition. Receiver showed up 7/30/32; Ty. 1s only. Karl I. Nutter was the only President (1910-1932) of this bank while Cashier Frank Wright was the 2d cashier from 1923-1932. Both received prison terms in 1933 for embezzling. Spencer was platted in 1820, and named for Captain Spier Spencer, who fell at the Battle of Tippecanoe, after whom Spencer County is also named.
