Owner's Description

Danville, PA The First NB Ch. # 325 PMG 30 $5 Original Fr. 394a Radar SN 212/461676 RED pp C PMG 1991115-004 dtd. April 2d. 1864. This note features the FEB 25th, 1863 Act approved date, bottom center as well as the 1863 Variety 1 Counterfeit statement with two dots beneath 25th. on the back. It has a Variety 2 face (feathers in Indian princess's headress; hooked shaped top branch by 5 protector) and Variety A back with Columbus wearing black pantaloons with definitive vertical white stripes. Back lower right just beaneath vignette there are only 3 florishes--missing 4th small florish. The bank issued notes from Original Series to 1929 small size. However, the earliest notes are very rare, and this $5 Original Series is the only one from the bank reported in Track & Price. Although the margins are traditionally close for the type in some spots, this is still a very vivid, well printed, and colorful note with modest circulation. Excellent penned signatures of W.(William) A.M. Grier, Cashier and Sam'l Yorks, Jr., President. Mike purchased it privately at the 2017 IPMS show. From The Mike Coltrane Collection.
