Medal (Token), 1969, BR, WESLEY POWELL CENTENNIAL, WY, Good For 50C Brass Token, NGC MS63, Cert# 3433826-004. Obv. Mountain, Trees, Scene in circle, Outer circle legend J.W. POWELL 1869, GREEN RIVER, WYO TERR.; Rv. Redeemable for 50C on or before Sept 15, 1969 at Chamber of Commerce, legend around as obv. Attractive. John Wesley Powell was perhaps the most influential explorer and nature writer of his time. During the 1860s and 1870s, the one-armed civil war veteran led dangerous expeditions through uncharted areas of the Western United States to explore and map them.
