Owner's Description

Medal (Token), 1888, BR, CORN PALACE FESTIVAL, EIGHTH WONDER OF THE WORLD, Sioux City, Iowa, Rulau R-IA-SC-13, NGC MS62, Cert# 3209118-002. Brass, holed as made, and measures about 26mm in diameter. The Corn Palaces were built every year from 1887 to 1891. The merchants and railroad chipped in to build a wooden structure, and then nailed corn to the entire outside in different patterns. The woman of the City decorated in the interior. Obv. shows the Corn Palace Building, Corn Palace, Sioux City above, 1888 below; Rv. Ear of Corn, with Banners across, The Eighth Wonder of the World. This is a scarcer type than the types usually encountered. Nicely struck and detailed token with much luster remaining, and somewhat reddish toning to the surface on the reverse. Attractive and Scarce in Mint State.
