Medal, ca. 1850 (ND), AR, HOSPICE DE MATERNITE / SAINT VINCENT DE PAULE, France. NGC MS63, Cert# 3479125-016. Although unsigned, French medallist and gem engraver Roman Vincent Jeuffroy is known to have created a medal described as "Hospice De La Maternite", Born 1749, Died 1826. Reeded Edge and Original. Portrait Obv. Bust Rt., Rv. Inscription 3 Lines: Hospice, De La Maternite. Size: 31.7mm., Weight: 12.3g, . Warm Golden Patina. In the times of Les Mis, Women who could not take care of their babies brought them to a "Hospice" ran by religious orders who then took care and custody of the child.
