Owner's Description

An intriguing example that combines a warmly patinated, olive-copper obverse with a near-fully lustrous, copper-rose reverse. Sharply impressed with a couple of small carbon spots in the upper reverse field precluding an even higher numeric grade. This type commemorates Washington's headquarters at Chad's Ford, Pennsylvania during the Battle of Brandywine. Fought on September 11, 1777, this battle engaged more troops than any other during the American Revolution, and was also the longest single-day battle of the war. Dies by George H. Lovett. Another example graded MS 64 BN sold for $2,115.00 in a Heritage auction in 2016. THERE ARE ONLY (2) GRADED IN RED/BROWN, WITH (1) MS 66 FINER. THERE ARE A TOTAL OF ONLY (4) GRADED OVERALL, WITH ONLY THE MS 66 EXAMPLE FINER IN THE NGC CENSUS (5/2018).
