Owner's Description

Reddish brown surfaces with mottled blue overtones in the fields. A few scattered marks in the prooflike fields and an old nick on the cheek account for the grade, but the eye appeal is quite nice. One of a series of popular Lincoln medalets with anti-slavery themes. Dies by John D. Lovett. Provenance: From the Brian Dobbins Collection of American Political Tokens. Earlier ex Charles McSorley Collection, Part II, Presidential Coin and Antique, July 1998, lot 82. Only a total of (3) of this type listed in the NGC census as of 8/2018, with only (1) MS 66 BN finer. This MS 66 BN example sold for $822.00 in a 2013 Stacks Bowers auction of the John J. Ford Jr. collection.
