Medal, 1893, Copper, CARTER H. HARRISON STATUE, Chicago, IL. So-Called Dollar, HK-765, NGC MS62RB, Cert# 2462181-007. Well engraved high-relief bust of Carter Harrison, Mayor of Chicago, who was shot dead in October, 1893, during the World's Columbian Exposition, while he was standing in the doorway of his own home. The shooter, Patrick E. Prendergast was seeking revenge for failing to obtain a city city job. The assassin was quickly convicted and hanged. The reverse of the medal has a memorial plaque and noted that the bearer of the medal paid $1 into Mr. Harrison's memorial fund. A somewhat difficult medal to find in high grade.
