Owner's Description

Queen Wilhelmina KM#118 Queen Wilhelmina became Queen of the Netherlands in 1890 and was officially crowned in 1898. During her reign she presided over two world wars and an attempted revolution in 1918. Queen Wilhelmina is perhaps best known as the leader of the "Dutch government in exile" during World War 2. As its leader she encouraged the "Dutch resistance" through her radio broadcasts from Great Britain against Nazi Germany. Queen Wilhelmina called Adolph Hitler the "Arch-enemy of mankind". She returned to the Netherlands in 1945 shortly before the end of the war to a euphoric welcome by her people.
