Owner's Description
ALBANY BICENTENNIAL TYPE 1, 1886 ALBANY, NY. TOP POP OF BOTH NGC AND PCGS. (1) MS 65 DPL FINEST GRADED BY NGC ( I ALSO OWN THIS EXAMPLE). I GUESS PCGS IS VERY STINGY WITH GIVING PROOFLIKE OR DEEP PROOFLIKE OR PROOF DESIGNATIONS TO MEDALS, AS THIS EXAMPLE IS AS PROOFLIKE AS MY NCG MS 65 DPL EXAMPLE. I REALLY THINK THAT THIS EXAMPLE SHOULD BE GRADED AS A PROOF, AS THERE IS (1) PF 64 ULTRA CAMEO GRADED BY NGC AS WELL. SUPER BLACK/WHITE CONTRAST ON THIS EXAMPLE! TYPE I MEDALS MADE IN BOTH WHITE METAL (HK-601) AND BRONZE (HK-601A). Bright and lustrous with frosty motifs against deeply mirrored fields. Struck to commemorate the bicentennial of Albany, New York, the current capital of the Empire State. Interestingly enough, the curve of what is almost certainly an errant 8 can be seen in the field below the first primary 8 in the date on the reverse. Choice for the grade with outstanding eye appeal.
