Medal, 1950, Bz Gold Plated, UNIFACE DOLLAR, CA STATEHOOD CENTENNIAL, CA, So Called Dollar HK-505 Bronze, Gold Plated, Octagonal, Uniface, NGC MS-63, Cert# 4029628-008. Octagonal 40 x 40 mm. Rarity-6. Purpose: To celebrate 100th anniversary of Statehood. Obv. Same as reverse of No. 423 [$50 slug]. "Within beaded circle is design similar to 1851 Augustus Humbert $50 gold slug, target reverse variety, principal difference being 000 Thou, in upper ribbon; legend around Imitation of Famous California Fifty Dollar Gold Slug, Used by the Pioneers * 1850 *; Rv. UNIFACE. Elusive So Called Dollar, Attractive and Seldom Seen. Heritage Auction Description: A brilliant example with ample original luster on this popular California slug. Struck by Irvine and Jachens of San Francisco, with a reported mintage of 10 to 12 pieces.
