Owner's Description
A splendidly preserved cameo proof, it is the single highest graded 1890 by either grading service. Business strike Seated Quarter production ratcheted up slightly in 1890 to a total of 80,000 pieces. The Mint's output of proofs, however, amounted to only 590 pieces--the lowest yearly total since 1877. All specimen strikings of the 1890 Quarter were achieved with a single pair of dies. The present survivor is one of the few 19th C. Proof 69's graded. It is a bright, sharply contrasted representative with an appearance that is untoned and looks exactly like it did when minted. Heavily frosted, the devices are also possessed of full striking definition. Top graded coin in the entire proof seated quarter series, it does have utlra cameo appearance on bright mirrored surfaces.
