Owner's Description

Part way through 1942 the composition of Nickel’s was changed to an alloy that included 35% Silver in order to conserve Nickel which was needed in the war. In order to make it easy to differentiate these Nickels from others a larger mintmark was used and placed above the dome of Monticello on the reverse. This coin is a very nice AU58 example of this issue, looks very close to MS.
