Owner's Description

Mintage: 3.5 Million
Full Step Availability: 0.67%
NGC Population MS67: 70/7
Date/mm Information: Bowers states that 25% of the coins minted are reverse of 38 yielding a mintage of 875 thousand. Despite the lower mintage of the 1950-D, these coins were not widely saved and the 1939-D is the real key date of the series according to the published. But who am I to proclaim the 1939-S Rev of 40 the true key date of the series.

Coin Description:
A fantastically target toned Jefferson on both sides with sandy peripheries followed by vivid thin bands of apple green, violet, pink, and sunshine yellow yielding to bright white centers. A lustrous clean beautifully toned nickel.

Comments:
I have posted this coin of different forums over the years and most people harp on the rather benign spotting on Jefferson's forehead. And while that may be a flaw, it is about the only one. The surfaces and eye appeal of this coin are off the charts. Monticello is very well struck and the windows are some of the best this collector has ever seen. I won this coin in a no reserve E-Bay auction in April 2008 and paid a handsome price almost equal to PCGS Price Guide.
