Coin Description:
The surfaces of this coin are spectacular. The obverse fields are essentially perfect and this war nickel is well deserving of the assigned grade. In addition, the obverse fields are graced by soft blushes of captivating iridescent lavender and lime green toning. And just when you thought you were done, you flip it over and are greeted by a stunning reverse. Immensely attractive toning including gold, patches of lime green, cobalt blue, violet, and magenta leave the observer in awe.

Comments:
How this coin escaped a star designation is one of the great mysteries in numismatics. The eye appeal is absolutely mind blowing. I rank the eye appeal of this coin in the top five of this collection. Yeah, it is that nice! The photograph of the reverse gives the illusion that it is a dollar sign 1942-S with the die crack through the "S" mintmark, but it is simply a scratch on the slab.

I take a great amount of pride in photographing my collection. At times, numismatic photography can be more challenging than finding the actual coins. I rate the obverse image of this coin my best numismatic photograph I have ever taken without question. There are virtually no hot spots, the detail is tremendous, the color balance and contrast are excellent, and the fact that I was able to capture the color of the iridescent toning cannot be overstated.

I purchased this coin as a BIN lot from a Jefferson Nickel specialist on E-Bay in March 2008. At 4X Numismedia Wholesale, it was practically theft!
