Coin Description:
A blue-violet patina dominates both sides of this premium gem with yellow and orange highlights at the peripheries. While there are some minor distractions that limit the grade to MS66, the focal areas of this coin are incredibly clean including a very smooth cheek and jawline. The coin is well struck with 5 full steps and would have a good shot at the + designation upon resubmission.

Comments:
In late May 2010, David Lawrence Rare Coins offered "The Monticello Collection" of Jefferson Nickels for sale in auction. Many of the pieces in the collecton were midgrade gems worth less than $100, but there were some keynote coins in the collection as well. This was the first noteworthy coin listed. Not terribly rare with over 200 available coins, but demand is high because it is a first year of issue coin with a reverse hub that was only used for the first two years of the series. DLRC uses substandard scans in their listings and even though they listed the coin as a color coin with a DLRC rating of [3/*****], I was still able to obtain the coin 20% back of PCGS Price Guide. It will take a monster toned top pop to knock this coin out of the set.
