Owner's Description
In the era of colonization, the Netherlands was third to only Great Britain and France in the lands they controlled. The Dutch controlled the oil rich Dutch East Indies or current day Indonesia. These lands brought personal wealth to the queen’s family and wealth to the Netherlands in general. A revolt after the war in the Dutch East Indies brought sharp criticism on the queen by the Dutch economic elite. Queen Wilhelmina survived two world wars, a coup attempt, and an assassination attempt, but she would not survive this sudden fall in her popularity. On September 4, 1948 after a reign of 58 years, Queen Wilhelmina abdicated in favor of her daughter, Juliana. Queen Wilhelmina declared, “I have finished my walk.”
This 1932 NGC MS-66 10 Gulden coin has a mintage of 4,323,954 and the NGC population report for this coin is 3 with none higher.
I started this set with a coin that met my target grade of MS-65 purchased on July 9, 2009. With a total NGC population of 122 coins and one coin at the top grading MS-66, I never expected to get an opportunity to upgrade this coin. Nevertheless, a once in a lifetime opportunity to own the only MS-66 graded coin came by way of an E-Bay auction on February 21, 2011. Today in 2017 there are three coins graded at MS-66. For a time, I enjoyed owning the only MS-66 coin of this date graded by NGC.
One of the things I like about this set is that I am able to own the finest coins available because of low collector demand for this series. Purchasing this coin for less than $200 over melt value insures that both of my stated goals of MS-65 or higher and the best coin possible is both attainable and affordable.
