While I’m not a huge fan of gold, prooflike gold is another story altogether! The gold dollar is divided into three subtypes, by far the longest running and most common of which is the third type. Prooflike coins are surprisingly common on these little gold dollars, and when chosen in a high grade presentation, can be extremely attractive.
This coin, which I won in the Heritage Fun 2011 auction, is a gorgeous, perfectly original gold coin. Strong mirrors highlight smooth surfaces, with some original toning scattered throughout. This is one of the highlights of my set (which is full of fantastic coins which I love). Choosing a favorite out of my set is incredibly difficult, but this would be a top contender.
