Owner's Description

With a limited mintage of only 89, I consider myself fortunate owning this coin. On May 12, 2011, the South African (SA) Mint paid tribute in a very special way to the World Wide Fund for Nature’s (WWF) 50th anniversary. In a world-first, SA Mint brought an antique press (over 100 years old) to overstrike a limited edition R2 crown-size coin on top of Table Mountain in Cape Town.

It was the first time in history a coin has been overstruck on this majestic landmark. The coin features South Africa’s national bird, the endangered blue crane, together with WWF’s official logo, the panda, on the obverse of the coin.
