Owner's Description

After several attempts with several coins at NCS and just before giving up, I finally managed to get this perfect specimen. No mean feat with a limited mintage of 3000. With Knysna being one of my favourite holiday destinations, this coin will be in my set for a long time. The Knysna seahorse is the only seahorse that is endangered. Knysna seahorses are found only in the Knysna, Keurbooms and Swartvlei estuaries on the south coast of South Africa. They are green to brown in colour and grow to about 12cm in length. The reverse spells South Africa in 9 of the 11 official south African languages and the old coat of arms.
