Owner's Description

Republic 1/2 Escudo, 1855-GW. NGC AU-58. San Jose mint, KM 97. Mintage of 8,822 pieces for both JB and GW assayers in this year. There are no reports on how many coins were minted by each assayer, but there is no doubt that the assayer GW is extremely rare for the ½ escudo series and much scarcer than their JB counterparts. This is the finest known specimen from the Magnificent Richard Stuart Collection. Extremely rare in this condition and the only graded by NGC as AU with no mint state coins on record.
