Owner's Description

The first year of mintage in a series is always extra special. This date of the Carson City series is known to be heavily bag marked and high grade examples are rare. There are only a few prooflike examples known in the original GSA holders as well. The typical mint state coins have a population of only a few in ms 66 and even less in 66 prooflike with only several dpl's in all grades in the original holder. This coins tied for the highest graded 1878 CC GSA to date and I thank Christopher for parting with it and getting it to me for this set.
