Owner's Description

Mintage 13,220 and scarce in any grade with probably less than 100 extant.

Purchased August, 2013 in a Heritage auction where it was described as follows: Only 13,220 minted resulting in the 1859-S five being in the top 10% of the entire $5 Liberty series in terms of rarity. The wheat-gold surfaces still show considerable prooflike reflectivity. Scattered marks are consistent with the moderate circulation.
