Owner's Description
Mintage 62,710. Considered 6th in overall rarity of the Dahlonega Half Eagles. The base of the first ! in the date appears to be repunched. The surfaces are relatively clean for this issue and it appears to be well struck.
Ex Goldberg Sale 74 June 2013 Pre Long Beach Coin Auction where it was described as follows:1851-D $5 Liberty. NGC graded EF-40. Mostly untoned, another in a string of interesting and highly prized D and C mint gold coins from this extensive consignment. Dahlonega, Georgia was opened in 1838 to strike gold coins exclusively. The mint ceased operations when the break came between the Union and the Confederate States of America in 1861. It never reopened. Pedigree: The Arden Collection.
