1870-S Double Eagle, AU58
Lustrous and High-End
1870-S $20 AU58 NGC. According to Jeff Garrett and Ron Guth, this issue was heavily circulated, exported and destroyed. They describe the 1870-S double eagle as "very rare in Mint State."
This AU58 example is lustrous, well-struck, and high-end for the grade. Distributed small to moderate marks are consistent with a brief stint in circulation.
