Owner's Description
The Denver Mint produced over 53 million Roosevelt dimes dated 1953 and millions survive in uncirculated and mint state condition. However, coins with full torch strikes are much less common. PCGS estimates that less than 40,000 1953-P Roosevelts with full torch strikes survive in MS 65 condition or better.
In total there are only 161 1953-P Roosevelts that have been certified with FT or FB designations by NGC and PCGS. At MS 66 FT, NGC has a population of 39. PCGS has a population of 56 at MS 66 FB.
The 1953-P here is a beautiful bright white coin with great luster on both sides. It has a great strike and fine details on both sides. All torch lines are clear, defined, and uninterrupted. Very light contact marks are present on both sides, but consistent with the MS 66 grade.
Overall this is a very nice dime for the collection and one of my favorites. Not too many graded higher. It took me a long time to find a nice 1953-P. Market prices for this date are closer to book prices (and even often exceed book prices) than most other silver Roosevelt dates.
