Owner's Description

The Philadelphia Mint produced over 85 million dimes in 1959 and millions survive in mint condition. This is a quite common date in the silver Roosevelt dime, however very high grades can be a bit hard to come by.

The 1959-P here is covered with a spotty, dark mostly russet colored tone. There are some green blues colors around parts of the perimeter on both sides. However, the toning is below average in eye-appeal. This coin may benefit from conservation.

The coin has a good strike on both sides, but some light hairlines and die scratches on the reverse. Torch lines are all very clear, well-defined, and possibly uninterrupted. There is one contact mark on the torch handle which may interrupt the continuity of one of the vertical lines. It's a close call.

This coin is encased in the fifth generation of NGC slabs, before the company began FT designation. So perhaps this coin is a good candidate for both conservation and designation review.
