Owner's Description
In 1949, the Denver Mint produced 26 million Roosevelt dimes putting the date among the ten lowest minted in the 1946-1964 series.
The 1949-D in this collection has a dulled luster with a light russet-colored tone on both sides. In general, this dime has below average eye-appeal.
Despite the color, it has a great strike with very fine details, although there are some light hairlines on both sides. Torch line are very clear and well-defined. Both the upper and lower band lines are full and complete, however the upper band line is interrupted by a contact marks. There are other contact marks that interrupt the vertical torch lines in a few places. Nevertheless this is a very nice torch strike for the date.
Other noticeable contact marks include a few scuffs on the western most oak leaf and on the torch's flame on the reverse. Noticeable contact marks on the obverse include one on Roosevelt's neck and two around his mouth.
Overall, this coin has nice details, but would be much nicer with better luster. I would like to get a better looking coin to fill this spot.
