Owner's Description
The Philadelphia mint produced about 30 million Roosevelt dimes dated 1949 putting the date in the lowest ten dates minted among the series. Mint state examples survive in the hundreds of thousands, however dimes with full torch strikes are quite uncommon. NGC and PCGS have only certified about 175 1949-P Roosevelts with FT or FB designations.
The 1949-P in this collection has a spotty dark orange/russet-colored tone on both sides with large clusters of a very nice turquoise-color. Considering the spotty and inconsistent nature of the tone, this coin has only neutral to above average eye-appeal.
It has a good strike and fine details, but some light hairlines, on both sides. Most of the torch lines are clear and defined, although the lower band line is incomplete and interrupted in several places by contact marks. However, it is a very good torch strike for the date.
There are also several other places where the torch's vertical lines are interrupted by contact marks. Overall, this is an appropriately graded coin. I would like to get a nicer looking and higher graded coin for this spot.
