Owner's Description

Created in 1775 the Marine Corps has been a component of the United States Department of the Navy since 1834.
DID YOU KNOW? The Marine Corps having an average 250,000 active and reserve members is the smallest of the United States Armed Forces in the United States Department of Defense.
The obverse has an image of the raising of the flag at Iwo Jima. This is the most famous picture of WWII. It was taken by Joe Rosenthal of the Associated Press and won a Pulitzer Prize.

Franklin R. Sousley, John H. Bradley, Harlon H. Block. Two other men barely visible in the photo are, Michael Strank, and Rene A. Gagnon.
