Owner's Description

The 1996 Paralympic Games in Atlanta was the first to get mass media sponsorship, and had a budget of 81 million dollars. The Mascot for the Atlanta Paralympics was Blaze. Blaze was created by Trevor Stone Irvin, Blaze is a phoenix, A mythical bird that rises from ashes to begin a new life.
The phoenix is in Egyptian, Arabian, Chinese, Russian, and native American folklore, and is a symbol of strength, vision and inspiration and survival.
1996 Paralympics was part of a 16 coin venture over a two year period. These were for the XXVI Olympiad in Atalanta, Georgia. They had a maximum mintage allotment of one million coins, proof and uncirculated but combined sold less than 100,000. This made it favorable for the collectors market especially the uncirculated had some of the lowest mintages for collectable coins.
NGC UNIVERSAL ID 28TU. Catalog #KM-268. Mintage: 14,497. Population: 606. Pre-issue Price: $27.95. Regular Price: $31.95.
