Owner's Description
Many of the key "foot soldiers" in the USO's mission were women. They were assigned to "provide friendly diversions for US Troops who were mostly men in their teens and twenties." All over the world USO centers rely heavily on volunteers to serve coffee, doughnuts, dance with troops, and much of the time just talking to and visiting with the men and women of todays forces.
FAST FACT: One female entertainer wrote about conditions while performing Quote " We've played to audiences, many of them ankle deep in mud, huddled under the ponchos in the pouring rain (it breaks your heart the first two or three times to see men so hungry for entertainment) We played on open stages in pouring rain, with huge tropical bugs flying in our face and hair, thousands of men to a few at a time where they were seated along fences and up in trees."
