Owner's Description

F-108, but the very weak strike combined with the heavy toning make identification problematic. The position and slope of the date as well as the position of the mint mark appear consistent with the diagnostics of F-108, but my degree of certainty is pretty low. The top of the first S in STATES is missing, as well as the top of the O in OF. Fortin notes both characteristics. But the letters on the coin appear to be even more damaged than those shown in Fortin's images. A lttle easier to identify in Greer, as the coin is obviously a Greer-102, with a small block S. Only seven coins graded at this level, four at NGC and three at PCGS, with none finer. A pretty coin, but not particularly strong for its grade. Bought from a Heritage auction, July 2004, lot 5786.
