Owner's Description

A difficult coin to identify by variety. About all I am sure of is that it is a small block S, and that the position and slope of the date on the obverse is most consistent with Fortin's Obverse-11. This would seem to classify it as a F-114, but the mint mark is not filled. I really want to call this a Reverse-K. Both minor defects (on the N in ONE and the M in DIME) are present, but the mark on the N in ONE is very subdued compared to Fortin's photograph. I would note there is a light die crack through the lower left wreath. All this sort of leaves me in no man's land. Perhaps Gerry will read this and attribute it, and put me out of my misery. I have spent hours trying unsuccessfully to match up these two dies with one of his varieties. The coin itself is somewhat unusual for this set as it is bright white with just a touch of toning in the middle of the reverse. A common date, but still scarce in this grade with the pops being two at PCGS and four at NGC with one finer. Bought from a Superior auction, July, 2003, lot 1012.
