Owner's Description

F-106, Typy II. With nineteen varieties of Type II coins to choose from I finally settled on F-106, but not with a high degree of conviction. The position of the date and the size and position of the mintmark most closely conform to this variety. At least there do not appear to be any misplaced 8'S, 7'S, or 6 overdates to deal with, so a number of those varieties can be ruled out a priori. I would note that the first S in STATES and the O in OF are broken. No die cracks or other surface marks to report. The coin, one of four MS-67s at PCGS (NGC does report three 68s and ten 67s), is magnificent. The strike is full, the toning deep and even with good luster. Bought from a Heritage auction, November, 2004, lot 6218.
