Owner's Description

Type I reverse. Try as I can, I cannot match this up with any of Fortin's seventeen die varieties. In simpler times Greer lists only two, and this coin would obviously be a 102 with a repunched mintmark. Greer does note it takes considerable patience to find a coin that is fully struck, a condition this coin has no trouble meeting. For a date this common (R4) gems while not rare are scarce with only one MS-67 graded by NGC on top of sixteen MS-66s (including six at PCGS). On the obverse a light die crack connects the base of the rock to the 1 in the date, and another connects Liberty's toe to the A and C in AMERICA. Bought from Jason Carter, March, 2006.
