Owner's Description

F-108a, DDR. I thought the extreme doubling of the two Es in ONE DIME on the reverse of this coin would make identifying the die variety easy. Not so. I soon discovered Fortin has listed thirty-three different die combinations for this date, twenty-two of which involve doubling on the reverse. I finally settled on F-108a, with the die deterioration on the obverse so extreme that the letters LIBERTY on the shield are practically indiscernable even on this full mint state specimen. A common coin of a common date (R3), but I have found that even these simple sisters can have fascinating features. Bought from a Heritage auction, February, 2006, lot 750.
