Owner's Description

The only thing I am certain about this coin is that it is a Type I reverse. Fortin lists nineteeen possible die combinations for this reverse, and calling this coin a F-102 seems to come the closest. The date is a medium level date with a slight down slope and a large knob 6. Only a F-102 has all these characteristics plus the reverse of this variety exhibits central weakness which can be seen in the letters O(N)E D(I M) E. There is some doubt in my mind tough as I am not certain that the position of the date relative to the dentils is correct for this variety. Kam Ahwash thought there were seventy-nine obverse dies and sixty-nine reverse dies used in this year. Perhaps Fortin's list is not exhaustive. The coin itself is a beauty with lovely even toning and no distracting lines or marks. Bought from Jason Carter, February 2007.
