Owner's Description

This coin is probably a double die reverse, mentioned by Breen (#3347 in the encyclopedia), but not included in Gerry Fortin's book. Fortin does mention a doubling on the ribbon on the reverse (F-101a), but the doubling on this coin is much more pervasive throughout the design. and the doubling on the right ribbon shows on top of the ribbon, not the bottom as illustrated in Fortin. Only four gems have been graded by the services, two MS-67s at NGC (with no MS-66s below), and two MS-66s at PCGS (with no MS-65s below.) The current coin is quite colorful, but of average eye appeal due to unevenness in the toning. Bought from Jason Carter, October, 2001.
