Owner's Description

F-101, and a treasure for me, as I made a special trip to New York and met with Jim O'Donnell for a day when I acquired the coin. Jim was a tremendous help in guiding me in this series, and many of the rarities (1871-CC, 1873-CC, 1874-CC) were at one time part of his collection. This coin is the finest graded for the date and fully merits its lofty grade. Even silver grey toning and a strong strike (unusual for a 63-S according to Fortin) give the coin great eye appeal. This coin is the only one graded MS-66 for the date, and there are only two MS-65s at PCGS (none at NGC). Fortin rates the date R-7- in mint state. The date I acquired it was May, 2001.
