Owner's Description

R-7+ in mint state, and perilously close to R-8, as only three examples have surfaced in mint state. A beautiful, fabulous example of one of the great rarities of the series. Originally part of the Eliasberg collection, it became part of the Richmond collection sold by David Lawrence in March, 2005, (lot 1163), where I acquired it. This coin is tied by one other piece graded MS-64, and bettered by one graded MS-67, all at NGC. PCGS has yet to uncover any mint state examples of this date. The coin has a light die crack on the obverse starting at the dentils just below the rock, and extending up just inside the edge to the top of the U in UNITED. The toning on the coin is even and lovely with no blemishes of any sort to report.
