Owner's Description

F-101. R-7 in mint state. Another of those incredible rarities which keep cropping up throughout this series. Only eight mint state coins have been slabbed, and this coin leads the pack at NGC, while one coin managed to reach the MS-66 level at PCGS. There would appear to be no doubt about its variety, the date slopes slightly upward, it is positioned correctly vis-a-vis line eight in the shield, a light die crack connects stars four, five, and six, and finally there are approprioately placed die chips aound the stars particularly stars 3 and 13. The only doubt in my mind comes from a slight re-cutting of the mint mark visible only under very high magnification below the upper loop of the S and again just below the middle loop. In the past this seems only to have been seen on the F-103 variety. A lot of verbiage about varieties and if there were room I would spend much more on the condition of this magnificent coin. A pristine coin, great strike, great coloring. Bought from Certified Asset Management, June, 2007.
