Owner's Description

This coin does not really match up with any of the varieties listed in Fortin's book. F-109 comes closest but is not a perfect match. The date position is correct and the 5 4 is open, but only a few of the die cracks called for are present. There is one from the left arrow point crescent shaped along the base of the rock to the rim. And another links stars 9-13. But the reverse is perfect and there are no cracks or hints of any around the date or Liberty's head. Perhaps an earlier strike from these dies. The coin is well struck with all stars showing full centrils. Light toning and full luster give the coin good eye appeal. Beautiful perhaps, but not a particularly rare coin (R3). PCGS has graded twelve at this level with none finer, while NGC has graded an additonal thirteen MS-66s with six MS-67s and one MS68 finer. Bought from an American Numismatic Rarities auction, January 2006, lot 266.
