Owner's Description

A lovely and interesting coin which I don't think conforms to any of the varieties listed in Fortin's book . It seems closest to F-106. The second 1 in the date is definitely re cut, but there is no evidence of a 5 in the drapery. There is definitely an irregularity in the lower left portion of the shield, possibly the flag of an errant 1, but it is hard to tell. There also appears to be considerable doubling of the vertical lines in the shield. The reverse exhibits numerous diagonal die scratches especially heavy around the bow knot and the final A in AMERICA up towards the final E in DIME. The pops for this date are somewhat unusual, as each service has found one MS-67, but there are no MS-66's at either service. The coin itself is a beauty well struck with smooth unblemished surfaces. Bought directly from John Feigenbaum at David Lawrence, July, 2000.
