Owner's Description

F-101, the date is downward sloping. Two things set this beautifully toned coin apart. One, the strike is incredibly firm, the details crisp in a date which Fortin states comes flatly struck for the most part. Two, there is a major die crack on the reverse, starting at 7;00 on the rim and going all the way up within the wreath past the second set of berries. I have not seen this mentioned elsewhere. R-5 as a date with gems even rarer. This is one of three MS-65s graded at PCGS with none finer. While NGC chips in with five MS-65s and one MS-66. Bought from an American Numismatic Rarities auction, September, 2003, lot 237.
