Owner's Description

F-101. I know the coin is white, but sometimes for an issue this rare (R-7 in mint state) you have to make compromises. In this case a terrific strike overcame my reservations (it would qualify for a "full head" designation). Fortin does state in his notes on this date that for this rare date fully struck examples are extremely rare and worth a considerable premium. Of the rarity in mint state there can be no doubt. PCGS has graded just one coin MS-65 and one coin MS-64. NGC has graded one MS-66 and one MS-64 with no MS-63s. So coins graded PCGS MS-63 make the condition census. For this coin the strike is paramount. There are a number of light lines and considerable chatter in the obverse fields which account for the grade. Bought from Heritage's sale of the "Simpson" collection, September, 2010, lot 3622.
