Owner's Description

O-101a, double die reverse. This can be seen most clearly on the O in ONE and the D in DIME as well as the outline of several of the leaves. A gorgeous coin meriting a "*" from NGC as well as a MS-68 grade. Almost too gorgeous. Whenever I see a coin heavily toned like this the question always arises NT or AT? Bought at Heritage's sale of the Simpson Collection in September, 2010, lot 3617, where almost every other coin in the collection had been recently newly slabbed by PCGS, so maybe PCGS had some doubts as to grade or toning which could not be resolved (I assume grade was the issue, as the coin is listed in PCGS's Coin Facts as having an assumed grade of MS-66, not the normal one point downgrade PCGS assigns to NGC coins). Whatever. The coin is spectacular and hard to find fault with. Far and away the finest graded small stars dime (tops at PCGS is MS-65).
