Owner's Description

Mintage: 53.4 Million
Full Step Availability: 33%
Population MS67 5FS: 172/1
Date/mm Information: Easily found in high grades with full steps and excellent eye appeal.

Coin Description:
A truly phenomenal coin. Lime green, apple red, orange, and lemon yellow cover the obverse in an incredibly beautiful intermingled pattern. The center of the reverse is bright pink, yielding to lavender, lime green, yellow and orange. An immensely attractive high grade full step Jefferson. Only five full step 1941-D's have earned the star designation and this is certainly the finest of the five.

Comments:
This coin is the undisputed KING of this collection and is one of the finest Jefferson Nickels in existence. I have been an avid collector of toned coins for almost a decade. This is the single finest toned coin I have ever seen in person and only the photo of the Sunnywood 1881-S MS68 Morgan Dollar eclipses the quality of toning found here.

I obtained this coin by taking a chance in the 2008 July-August Baltimore, MD (ANA) US Coin Signature Auction #1114 from Heritage. I have provided a link to the auction lot below.

http://coins.ha.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=1114&Lot_No=7818

My guess is that the underbidder was a floor bidder as I can't believe anyone else would be crazy enough to submit such a premium bid on a coin sight unseen as I did. I had always prided myself on my ability to view Heritage photos and predict what they would look like in hand. I could see glimpses of color from the photograph, but had no idea of the monster that would greet me when I opened the Heritage package. I remember staring at the coin for several minutes, mesmerized by it's beauty. Enjoy!
